So many of us feeling the horrors of all the recent news; from the Supreme Court, to the environment, and the attacks on human rights and human dignity. Our nervous systems are on overload.
Containment exercises can help us reconnect with our bodies natural resilience and help build stability for the long-haul.
Containment exercise 1: Building coherence in the core (between organ systems)
1. Take 3 deep breaths: deep in, count to five, deep out.
2. Place your left hand on chest and your right hand on your forehead, and continue breathing deeply at your own natural rate
3. After a few breaths, move your right hand from your forehead to your stomach. Keep your left hand on you chest. Continue breathing deeply at your natural rate.
As you breathe, feel free to move your right hand back and forth as desired. Notice any shifts in your body or decrease in tension. Notice any small twitches and just allow them to happen.
